Thanasis Polykandriotis at Philippos Nakas Conservatory

Thanasis Polykandriotis realized long ago that all instruments, including Greek traditional and folk music instruments need special attention and recognition.
And this applies to all musical instruments without exception.

Thus, in 1996, the collaboration between the Philippos Nakas Conservatory and the School of Folk Music of Thanasis Polykandriotis began and the "Epomenoi" music ensemble was created. Right after this began the publication of the works and methods of Th. Polykandriotis by the Philippos Nakas publishing house. Among the publications, "Laiki Armonia", a book which filled a big gap in the Greek music literature regarding the methods for harmonizing folk songs.
Since then, many years have passed and the tireless efforts of the renowned composer and performer have been justified, since the bouzouki and the other instruments of the Modern Greek Folk Music - together with the instruments of the Greek Traditional Music - have taken the place they deserve in conservatory studies.
The recent decision of the Ministry of Culture gives a new meaning and perspective to all students of bouzouki, tzoura, baglama as well as students of all instruments of Greek Traditional and Folk Music, since the Philippos Nakas Conservatory has secured an operating license for the Department of Greek Traditional and Folk of Music and the degrees of its graduates are recognized by the Ministry of Culture as equivalent to the degrees of classical music instruments.
Through this decision, the studies are enriched with a complete program of general and theoretical courses provided by the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, so that the graduates of the Department are complete qualified musicians, ready to join with claims the music industry, production, performance or music education from the teacher's position.
Thanasis Polykandriotis, surrounded by excellent teachers-soloists, such as Alexandros Psomopoulos, Alexandros Kouvelis, Vassilis Triantafyllopoulos and Giorgos Konstantopoulos, continues his educational work at Philippos Nakas Conservatory and its branches in Athens and Thessaloniki.
