Piano recital Anastasios-Achilles Zafeiropoulos-Tsigas

Piano in our time is a recognizable and popular instrument, whose sound has been associated with many genres of music. This very ability of the instrument to imitate and fit into the musical environment is a timeless characteristic of the instrument. However today, when we say "piano", we think of a certain sound accompanied by a certain touch, a certain depth of keys, a certain placement of strings. It is difficult to tell a Steinway from a Yamaha, because the differences in today's pianos are subtle and difficult to recognize even to the trained ear.
Things are very different if we look back to the Age of Enlightenment, where the piano flourished as an invention and then became established in the music of the Western world. In the first part of this concert Anastasios-Achilles Zafeiropoulos-Tsigas will revive less familiar sounds from another era, including the first work ever written for the piano. The second part consists of a landmark work of the first half of the nineteenth century, in which the piano has been almost identified with the current of Romanticism because of its ability to express the particularity of human emotions.

Anastasios-Achilles Zafeiropoulos-Tsigas was born in Athens in 1996 in a musical family. From his first steps in music and until today he is a student of Aliki Piastopoulou in piano, in whose class he received a diploma with Excellence and a special award (Odeio Musical Horizons, June 2014). He also holds a degree in Musicology (Sorbonne 2018) and a diploma in Music Performance, from the piano class of Olivier Gardon and Billy Eidi and Philippe Biros' singing accompaniment (PSPBB 2018).
In June 2021 he completed a master's degree in historically informed interpretation specializing in grand piano, in the context of which he studied the piano heritage of the second half of the 18th century through teaching methods of the time and especially Muzio Clementi (Sorbonne IV, under the supervision of Jeanne Roudet and the pianistic guidance of Edoardo Torbianelli, Piet Kujken, Luca Montebugnoli and Benjamin Steens). As a natural continuation of his preoccupation with research, early music and period instruments, he was accepted into the doctoral program docArtes (Orpheus Instituut, Ghent, from September 2022, under the supervision of Tom Beghin), which integrates into academic research the artistic practice.
In addition to active participation in seminars and distinctions in piano competitions, he has made important appearances such as at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival (July 2018) and at the Journées de pianoforte in Paris (May 2019, December 2020). He loves composition and research as a crossroads of cultures, arts and sciences.
