Joanna Gaitani was born in Athens in 1986. At the age of six, she began taking flute lessons. At the age of twelve she also started playing the violin and five years later she received her diploma in violin in Athens with excellence and 1st prize.

From the age of 16 she was admitted to the Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz while at the same time she attended the Greek Lyceum in Frankfurt.  
In 2011 she completed her studies receiving her diploma (Kunstrelische Instrumentalausbildung) from Hochschüle für Musik und Tanz Koeln in the class of the world known legend professor Zakhar Bron.
She is a scholarship recipient of the IKY (State Scholarship Foundation) and the music organization Villa Musica in Mainz, which awarded her the "ex Schubert" Pietro Guarneri violin (Mantova,1702).

She has won the Top Prize in the International Violinesporlapaz Competition in Spain in 2006, the II Prize in the ART Competition in Thessaloniki, she was also a finalist / distinguished in: Eurovision competition, Yfrah Neaman, Spohr, Wieniawsky, Fritz Kreisler, Tibor Varga and Canetti International Violin Competitions.
She has performed as a soloist with the Klassishe Philharmonie Bonn, the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the Greek National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra and the orchestra of the Municipality of Athens. 

She has performed recitals in Greece, Germany, the UK, Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium.
She regularly performs at the Music Festivals of Koroni, Mani, Sifnos and Aegina and since 2015 she participated in the Diaghilev Festival under the conductor Teodor Currentzis.
Under the auspices of Villa Musica she has participated in recordings on German Radio and in chamber music concerts along with: Christian Altenburger, Oliver Triendl, Rainer Kussmaul, Wen Sinn Yang, Nicolas Chumanchenko, Wolfgang Meyer, Natalia Prishepenko, Davide Formisano, Rainer Kussmaul and others.

She has worked as a Concertmaster and as assistant at the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn (2007-2011).  She has collaborated with Armonia Atenea (Camerata), with MusicAeterna, since 2014 she has collaborated as a Concertmaster with the European Camerata of Berlin while since 2011 she has been working in the 1st Violins and since 2013 as a Principal in the Orchestra of the National Opera House in Athens.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, she relaunched her channel “La Violinistar” on YouTube.
In partnership with the Embassy of Ukraine, she has organized and performed charity concerts at the German School of Athens and the French Institute of Greece among other events.

In 2022 Joanna represented the State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) at the 70 year anniversary event at Stavros Niarchos concert hall.

In 2023 she won a position in the 1st Violins at the Athens State Orchestra.  As of 2023 she has been a faculty member of the Philippos Nakas Conservatory
