She was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Her father was Greek and her mother was Russian. Initially she studied dance at the School of Ballet in Tashkent and the Hamza Music College of Tashkent graduating in 1981 and 1987, respectively. Subsequently, she studied at the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kiev (Ukraine). She completed her studies as an opera soloist in 1995. She first appeared as a soloist with the National Opera of Ukraine “Taras Shevchenko” (1996). During the period 1997-2001 she collaborated with the opera houses of Prague, Brno and Ostrava. She had an international career, with appearances in the USA, Canada, France, Spain, Austria, Germany, Japan, Slovakia, Poland. She collaborated with distinguished opera artists, such as Renata Scotto, Lucianna Serra, Daniela Barcelona, Dimitris Kavrakos, Dimitra Theodosiou, etc. She also appeared in the Athens and Thessaloniki Concert Halls, the Ancient Theatre of Corinth, the Festival of Santorini and at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (as Carmen in the homonymous opera, GNO, 2007). Her repertoire includes the parts of Amneris [Aida], Eboli [Don Carlos], Delilah [Samson and Delilah/Samson et Dalila], Azucena [The Troubadour/Il trovatore], Ismene [The Siege of Corinth/L’assedio di Corinto], The foreign princess [Rusalka], Mélisande [Pelléas et Mélisande], Pauline [Queen of Spades], Lyubasha [The Tsar’s Bride], Carmen [Carmen]. She has been collaborating with the GNO since 2001. She first appeared as Seymour [Anna Bolena] and since then she has interpreted leading and supporting mezzo-soprano roles in such operas as Carmen, Rigoletto, The Troubadour [Il trovatore], Nabucco, Count Ory [Le comte Ory], Gianni Schicchi, Marathon-Salamis by Paul Karrer, La Gioconda, The Merry Widow [Die lustige Witwe] etc

Recently, she has been directing the "On screen on stage" project in collaboration with the double bassist Vassilis Papavasileiou, a project which combines cinematic masterpieces with great moments of the opera.
From the academic year 2023-24, Victoria Maifatova teaches vocal performance and opera at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, Glyfada branch.
