Vasilis Kitsos studied musicology at the Music Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He also graduated with Diplomas in Composition with Christos Samaras (Honour Degree) and in piano with Christine Fressinier. He is currently completing his Phd studies in Composition under the supervision of Nigel Osborne at the University of Edinburgh. He has attended composition seminars with Th.Antoniou and piano masterclasses with G.Hadjinikos, R.Szidon, J.Lagarde, M.Tirimo, P.Badura-Skoda.
He has written pieces for orchestra, chorus, ensembles and solo instruments that have been performed in Greece, Germany, USA, France, Romania, Spain, Turkey and Great Britain. Many of them were commissioned by organisations and ensembles such as The Athens Concert Hall, The Orchestra of Colours, Munchen ‘Philharmonia’, Louisianna Sinfonietta, Tangos a Quatro e.t.c.
Vasilis Kitsos has been teaching music theory and chamber music at various conservatories in Greece since 1991. He also teaches music theory at the Music Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 1999.
He is a member of the Greek Composers’ Union, Artistic Director of Nakas Conservatory (Thessaloniki) and Artistic Director of the Mediterranean Music Centre (Hellenic Ministry of Culture). His works are published by Europa Editions.
