Giorgos Papaoikonomou was born in Alexandroupoli in 1993.
He started his musical studies at the age of 10 at the Philharmonic of the Municipality of Alexandroupoli playing the alto horn (dir. V. Angelidis).
He continued with studies of classical guitar and theory at the Municipal Conservatory of Alexandroupolis from where he received a degree in Harmony in 2013 (Argyris Devetzis class).
Since 2011 he lives and works in Thessaloniki. In 2015 he received the degree of Counterpoint and in 2018 the degree of Fugue (Vassilis Kitsos class) with Honors. He is an honors graduate of the Department of Music Studies of A.U.Th. - direction of Composition - with professor Christos Samaras in charge. His works have been performed in Thessaloniki (Vafopoulio, Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, etc.) and in Athens (Athens Conservatory, etc.). His work "Tempus" for 6 performers was awarded at the 13th Panhellenic Composition Competition in memory of Yiannis A. Papaioannou, winning the second prize - for which he also received an Excellence Award from the Athens University of Applied Sciences for the most important awards of 2015. His work "Focus" for 8 performers was awarded at the 1st "Giorgos Sisilianos" Composition Competition, winning the third prize. In 2017 he was selected to participate in the Czech Antonin Dvorak composition competition where he received the 3rd prize. In the same competition he also won the 3rd prize in 2018. He has participated in the Composition Workshop for Young Composers of the Athens Music Hall in 2017.
In addition, he is a guitar graduate (2017 "Ptyhion" and 2019 "Diploma") from the class of Loukia Samourka with grade Excellent. He has attended seminars as an active member with Giorgos Chatzinikos (Concept and origins of musical interpretation), Vassilis Kitsos (Music perception and interpretation) as well as with the guitarists S. Grigoriadou, A. Hatzinikolou, E. Asimakopoulos, Lisa Zoi and K. Tosidi.
