Thodoris Koutsoyiannis studied archeology and art history at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he was awarded a doctorate in modern art history in 2008.
At the same time, as a scholar, he has conducted research abroad (La Sapienza, Rome 1998 and 2000 • Warburg Institute, London 2001-02 • Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa 2003 • Istituto di Studi Umanistici, Florence 2005-08 • Princeton University 2011 • Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies, Washington 2023-24).
He has taught history of modern art at the universities of Athens (2009, 2011, 2018), Thessaly (2010), Patras (2019-20) and the Hellenic Open (2009-14) and has delivered courses and seminars at public Institutes of Vocational Training and the Hellenic American Union.
He mainly studies the latest European art from the early Renaissance to the late Neoclassicism, especially regarding the reception of Antiquity and Greek aspects of the latest visual culture.
He has curated important exhibitions for the Hellenic Parliament, the National Archaeological Museum, the Municipal Gallery of Chania, the Municipal Gallery of Heraklion. Since 2009 he has been working as the Curator of the Art Collection of the Hellenic Parliament, where the exhibition he curated entitled "Envisioning Freedom", dedicated to the 1821 anniversary, is currently still on display (https://www.antikrizontas-tin -eleftheria.gr/).
From the academic year 2024-25, begins his collaboration with the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, as a professor in the Art History training seminars.
