Nikos Nikopoulos was born in Kavala and began flute lessons at the Municipal Conservatory of his hometown, with Tone Takahashi and Bertrand Cote.

In 1989 he became a student at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki and a student at Law School of the Aristoteles University of Thessaloniki. In 1992 he obtained flute diploma with honors (class Mr. Ilie Makovei). The same year he was awarded, following a competition, the Ph. Nakas Prize by the State Thessaloniki Orchestra.
From 1989 to 1992 he was the first flute in the State Thessaloniki Orchestra and from 1993 to 1996, he was leader in the Symphonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. He actively participated in international seminars with famous flute teachers as W.Bennett, M.Grauwels, A. Adorjan, M.Henkel, J.P.Rampal, W. Boustany, etc.

He continued studying the flute on State Scholarship at Royal Northern College of Music and the University of Leeds. At the RNCM he studied flute with Peter Lloyd and Richard Davis, Baroque flute and interpretation by Rachel Brown, and piccolo with Patricia Morris. With C. Rundell and E. Warren he attended orchestral conducting. At the University of Leeds he attended musicology courses.

In June 1997 he obtained the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Studies in Performance, and the following year the Master of Music with honors and distinction for outstanding performance. For the same reason he won the supporting scholarship 'Lord Boyle' from the University of Leeds.

He was a member of the European Youth Philharmonic, first flute in the symphony orchestras of RNCM and the University and he worked with Leeds Sinfonia. He also worked as first flute with the State Thessaloniki Orchestra and Kamerata.
He often appears in solo recitals and chamber music concerts in Greece and England. As a solist he has repeatedly collaborated with in the Thessaloniki State & Municipality Orchestras, with the Virtuosi di Praga, the Orchestra of the University of Leeds, the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Athens, the Kamerata, the Chamber Orchestra of National Opera and the State Thessaloniki Orchestra (K. Galileas,A. Myrat, P. Cortinas, etc.), in a repertoire that includes first performances in Greece of Honegger's 'Concerto da camera' and 'Mercandante Concerto', Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, Nielsen, Cimarosa Concertos.
