Giannis Karagiannidis was born in Thessaloniki in 1985. At the age of eleven, he began clarinet studies with Kosmas Papadopoulos at the Contemporary Conservatory of Thessaloniki, from where he received a Diploma in June 2007 with distinction, as well as a 2nd Prize and Commendation for outstanding musical achievement.

In October 2008 he began his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mannheim, in the class of Professor Rainer Müller-van Recum, in the Diplom Künstlerische Ausbildung program, from where he received a diploma in July 2010 with honors and started from October 2011 soloist studies (Solistische Ausbildung) at the same university where he received a diploma in 2013. In the period 2009-2013 he studied with a scholarship of the State Scholarships Foundation.

He studied with Aurelian Octav Popa, Petco Radev, Chen Halevi, Milto Moumoulidis, Stefan Zillmann, Laura Ruiz Ferreres, Ole Kristian Dahl and Emmanuel Abbühl.

At the same time, he has performed many chamber music recitals and concerts and has collaborated with many orchestras in Greece, Austria, Italy, Romania, France, Holland, Germany, having a large repertoire from the classical to the modern music period.

He has received prizes in international competitions Bari 2nd Prize (2005), Bucharest "EUROPAfest" of Jeunesses Musicales 2nd Prize (2008), as well as in Panhellenic competitions: 1st prize in the Panhellenic Woodwind Competition 'Art' (2007) and 1st Prize in the Panhellenic Woodwinds Competition of the Thessaloniki Conservatory Alumni Association (2008).

As a soloist he has collaborated with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra, the Kalamaria Municipality Orchestra, the Mannheim Jazz Orchestra and the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim.

Since January 2013 he has been solo clarinet in the Orchestra of the National Opera.

He teaches clarinet at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory.
