Dr. Nora Karakousoglou is a distinguished cellist, practice expert, and teaching consultant, renowned for her innovative and science-informed approaches to learning, practicing and performing. As the founder of Practice Cure, an online platform dedicated to her proprietary evidence-based practicing methodology, she guides musicians and educators to explore the internal processes of effective practice and preparation.
With over two decades of performance experience, Dr. Karakousoglou’s versatile career encompasses solo recitals, chamber music, early music concerts, and soloist appearances, including her recent performance of Brahms’s Double Concerto in San Francisco alongside violinist Sarah Wood. As a member of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, she has performed at renowned venues such as the Musikverein and the Berlin Philharmonie. Her collaborations span multiple genres, including the co-creation of Gretel! The Musical with songwriter Jenn Luck and playwright Suzan Zeder, as well as performances and recordings with celebrated artists such as Graham Reynolds, Christopher Cross, Jenny Lewis, and the Grammy-nominated Black Pumas.
Dr. Karakousoglou began her studies in Greece and furthered her education in France and the United States, earning Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees. She studied with esteemed pedagogues and soloists, including Jannis Chronopoulos, Philippe Müller, Rhonda Rider, and Bion Tsang.
As an educator with more than 15 years of teaching experience, Dr. Karakousoglou has worked with students of all ages and skill levels in the United States, Malta, Germany, and Greece. As a teaching coach and consultant, she has delivered workshops and seminars on her science-informed methodology for teaching how to practice, to audiences in the United States, Brazil, and the Philippines. In her private cello instruction, Dr. Karakousoglou develops individually tailored curricula for each student, combining the established repertoire and elements of musicianship with methodology from the science of learning.
From the educational year 2024-25 she teaches cello at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory.
