Despoina Matthaiou was born in 1998 in Thessaloniki and grew up in Ptolemaida where she began her musical studies at a very young age. She holds an Integrated Master's degree from the Ionian University's Department of Music Studies with a thesis in Music Interpretation (with Nikolaos Tsouchlos). She has studied Advanced Theory and holds Diplomas in Honours in Piano (K. Valtadorou's class) and Violin (Mikis Michaelidis' class). In January 2022 she obtained Composition Degree with Honors 1st Prize.

She has participated in important Symphony Orchestras (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra-Amsterdam, MOYSA, State Orchestras of Thessaloniki and Athens, European Youth Orchestra (EUYO), Symphonic Orchestra of Thessaloniki Municipality, and has been a member of many vocal ensembles. She has collaborated with great representatives of Eastern Music (Goksel Baktagir, Nedim Nalbantoglou) in international festivals for the Friendship of Peoples (Istanbul, Tekirdag, Kirklareli).

She has actively attended many classical music seminars (Masterclass with L. Kavakos, Dim. Handrakis, V. Repin), as well as traditional music (K. Gouvendas, Katerina Papadopoulou, S. Sinopoulos).

She attended the Yamaha "Robbie-Teddy" infant music system seminars at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory. She has a training certificate in the Direction of Choirs and Instrumental Ensembles (M. Meligkopoulou, F. Giannelou).

From September 2021 she lives in Athens and teaches at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory.
