Maria Kondaratou was born in Athens. She began piano lessons with Lucia Filipponi and continued with Aris Garoufalis at the Athens Conservatory, where she received her diploma with honors.
She attended piano lessons at the Royal Academy of Music, with Phillip Jenkins and Lois Phillips, and continued with a scholarship to study at Trinity College of Music with John Bingham, obtaining her diploma (PGTCM). Following examination she was awarded the diploma of the Royal College of Music (ARCM).
She has won distinction in chamber music from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
She has perfromed in London, Athens and other Greek cities. She has perfrormed as soloist with the Symphony Orchestra of the Trinity College of Music, and has recorded for the Greek TV and radio. From 1985 until 1990, she collaborated for the show "The World of Music" in National Greek Television.
Maria Kontaratou is a graduate of Piraeus Ralleios Pedagogical Academy and teaches piano at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory. As of 2022-23 she is appointed Artistic Director of the conservatory's Aegaleo subsidiary.
