CV

Katia Molfesi was born in Athens and initially studied piano and theory, then obtained a master's degree in composition for film and television at Kingston University in London. She studied on a scholarship in the conducting class of chief musician Loukas Karytinos at the Athens Conservatory from where she received a diploma in conducting with honors, while she has attended international improvement seminars at music academies in Europe with important conductors.

She has conducted orchestras and ensembles at numerous Greek festivals including the Athens Festival and collaborates with orchestras such as the ERT Symphony, the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra, the Athens Symphony Orchestra and the National Opera, while since October 2019 she is the principal musician of the Piraeus Symphony Orchestra. Abroad she has conducted the Karlovy Vary Symphony, the North Czech Philharmonic and the Budapest MAV Symphony. Her concerts and performances often receive favorable reviews from the press.

She has conducted works by important Greek composers, several of them in pan-Hellenic premieres.

In the summer of 2018, she directed the choir created by the Center for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind, which carried out a European program Erasmus+ (Learning Mobility of Individuals-Youth Mobility) entitled “Music Key” with a musical and intercultural character.

Since 2013, she has been working regularly as principal musician at the National Opera, having taken part in many opera productions and having collaborated with soloists and directors of international recognition.
