Vassilis Digos was born in Athens. He is one of the most important guitarists of his generation internationally. He is the first classical guitarist in the history of the instrument to be distinguished and represent guitar and his country in the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition for soloists and orchestras, of the European Broadcasting Union, commissioned by the Greek Radio and Television in 2014. This success brought a series of important concerts and appearances on the biggest television and radio stations worldwide, such as Radio Germany, Austrian ORF, WDR, Radio Budapest, NPO Klassiek, Radio France etc., but also collaborations with great orchestras, the most important being his appearance with the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne in Germany which was broadcast live on the biggest international TV and radio stations. In Greece he has partnered with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Contemporary Music Orchestra of the Greek Radio and Television (ERT).
In 2014 he recorded his first disc for ERT with works by Luys De Narvaez, Joaquin Turina, Leo Brouwer and Mario C. Tedesco's Concerto in Re. He has to his credit more than 20 international awards and distinctions for his virtuosity and performance abilities, having won among others the 1st prize at the great Andres Segovia International Classical Guitar Competition in Germany.
At the age of 14 he gave his first international guitar recital and since then he has appeared in many foreign countries, such as Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Russia, Holland, Cyprus, etc. For his musical career, radio interviews and tributes have been made in Europe and America, while he has been awarded by the municipality of Athens for his significant musical career.
He completed the first cycle of guitar studies with a scholarship at the Conservatory of Vyron with his father Tasos Digos and then he was invited with a scholarship to the Athens Conservatory where he completed his studies with Kostas Kotsiolis with distinction winning a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School.
He is an honors graduate of the Departments of Music Studies of the Ionian University and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. As a top student in both schools, he received an Award of Excellence from the Rotary Club of Corfu for his outstanding performance. He is a PhD candidate at the University of Athens in the field of Historical and Systematic Musicology where he conducts research on "The position of the classical guitar in Greece at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century".
