Maria Tzanou studied guitar in the class of Lisa Zoi at the Athenaeum conservatory where she received her "ptychion" and "diploma" degrees.

She has attended seminars & master classes of well-known guitarists (E. Asimakopoulos & L. Zoi, Duo Assad, R. Aussel, M. Barrueco, C. Bonell, R. Dyens, O. Ghiglia, D. Russell, etc.) as well as G. Hadjinikos.

From 1995 to 2001, as a member of the Athenaeum Guitar Quartet, she gave many concerts in Athens and other Greek cities and participated in state television broadcasts.

She teaches at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory (2000-2002, 2016-present). She has also collaborated as a guitar teacher with the Neighbor Education Center in Vari (2004-2006) and with the Parents' Association of Filothei Primary School (2015-present).

She is also a graduate of the Biology Department of the University of Athens with postgraduate studies in the field of Applied Ecology with a European Union scholarship at the University of Ulster, UK. She has participated in research activities of the Department of Ecology of the University of Athens as part of her doctoral dissertation on the Paleoecology of lakes and marine ecosystems in Greece.
