Giorgos Kostopoulos was born in Athens in 1987. He studied at the Experimental Music High School of Pallini where at the age of 15 he started electric bass lessons. In 2015 he continued his studies at the Filippos Nakas Conservatory where he was taught electric bass by Iotis Kiourtsoglou and double bass by Kostas Konstantinou. From 2011 to 2016 he lived in New York where he studied double bass and electric bass with Lonnie Plaxico (Art Blakey, Dilly Gillespie) and Joe Martin (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner) at the Aaron Copland School of Music. After his studies he remained for another 3 years in New York where he actively participated in the city's music scene. As a sideman and bandleader he has shared the stage with a wide range of acclaimed New York artists such as Ullyses Owens Jr., Michael Mossman, Alexander Markov & World Peace Orchestra, Emilio Solla, Vitor Concalves, Oran Etkin, Joe Gallardo, Douglas Walter, Milcho Leviev, Kostas Baltazanis, Spyros Exaras but also in Greece he has collaborated with leading representatives of the Greek jazz scene such as Takis Paterelis, George Kontrafouris, Dimitris Tsakas, Yiannis Papadopoulos, Yiannis Kaseta, Thodoris Kotsyfas among others. He has also performed with singers such as Marios Fragoulis, Alcestis Protopsalti, Georgia Velivasakis among others. Between 2013 and 2018 he has been a member of the Princess Cruises Orchestra with whom he traveled and collaborated with artists from all over the world. He has also participated in the off-Broadway musicals "Louis Armstrong: Jazz Ambassador" and ''Does NY heart me'' in New York. He has performed with various musical groups and artists in historic New York concert venues such as Lincoln Center, Town Hall, Kaufman Music Center, Cooper Union, Louis Armstrong House Museum and The Bitter End and in Athens at the Onassis Foundation Roof, Stavros Niarchos KPI, in the garden of the Athens Palace and often appears in jazz scenes in Athens such as Afrikana, the Zoo, Athenaeum Kelari and Spiti Art Bar. He has participated in recordings such as: Jung Sungjo-Big Band in New York (CJ E&M), Georgia Velivasaki - Pano Kato i Patision (Odos Panos) & The Little Secret of Life (Polytropon ).In 2017 he released his first personal album Last Trip to the Moon (CD-Baby) with his own compositions. In 2022 he received his classical double bass diploma from the Attica Conservatory. He teaches bass at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory.
