Violin, Piano, Chamber Music Masterclasses | Mozarteum Hellas | collaboration: Mozarteum University

Violin, Piano, Chamber Music Masterclasses | Mozarteum Hellas | collaboration: Mozarteum University

An exciting musical start to the masterclasses of the 2023-24 academic year!

One of the goals of Mozarteum Hellas is to create important musical events in order to help the young talented musicians of Greece to develop their careers. For this reason, Mozarteum Hellas collaborates with the Mozarteum University and the Philippos Nakas Conservatory, for the organization of important masterclasses that will take place at the Philippos Nakas Conservatory from November 6 to 9. For 2023, two parallel masterclasses will be organized:

  • violin masterclass (Annelie Gahl, Professor, Mozarteum University)
  • piano & chamber music masterclass (Florian Podgoreanu - Lecturer, Mozarteum University)

    The masterclasses are held under the auspices of the Austrian Embassy in Athens.

    For the first time, students in Greece can participate in masterclasses which will be carried out with the collaboration of the Mozarteum University and familiarize themselves with the high-level education of the Austrian university, a decisive contribution to their development as musicians.

    This 4-day event will end with a concert by the students on Thursday, November 9 at 8 p.m. in the Philippos Nakas Concert Hall.

    Annelie Gahl is the recipient of the Anton Bruckner Prize of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra; she lives in Vienna as a freelance violinist; she began playing the violin at the Mozarteum University with Paul Roczek, and completed her studies in 1991 at the Vienna Academy of Music with Ernst Kovacic. Afterwards, a scholarship from the Alban Berg Foundation enabled her to study at Northern Illinois University with Shmuel Ashkenasi.
    From 1995-2008 she was a member of the Camerata Salzburg, and in 1995 she also began her regular participation in the Concentus Musicus, Nikolaus Harnoncourt's orchestra. From 2000-2003 she worked as a leader and concertmaster in the Vienna Academy; she is a regular guest in the Klangforum Wien; she has performed as a soloist with the Salzburg Chamber Philharmonic and the Camerata Salzburg in the Linz Brucknerhaus and the Vienna Musikverein, among others, as well as at festivals such as Wien Modern, Osterfestival Hall, Festwochen Gmunden, Styriarte, Klangspuren Schwaz, in the Philharmonie Luxembourgh, etc. She is also a member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra;
    Teaching engagements at a Viennese music school as well as at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg round off her versatile activities; her first solo CD "innaron" (released in 2005 by Extraplatte) aroused great enthusiasm in the media. It includes works by H.I.F. Biber as well as contemporary Austrian composers; in summer 2009 she conducted the baroque orchestra "Capella Triumphans" at the Salzburg Festival; her recording of John Cage's Six melodies and Thirteen Harmonies, together with the composer Klaus Lang, was released in 2010 by col-legno, and was immediately awarded the Pasticcio Prize of the ORF.
    She devotes herself with particular interest to chamber music, in recent years focusing on "new" and "early" music, as documented by numerous recordings. She is also intensively involved in improvisation, among other things as the musical partner of the dancer Mario Mattiazzo, with whom she has worked on several productions at the Vienna Schauspielhaus and the Odeon.

    Since 2013 Florian Podgoreanu has been working as a lecturer in the Department for Wind & Percussion Instruments at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. His concert activities have taken him several times to Romania, Austria, Germany (including the Berlin Philharmonie), Italy, Great Britain and Switzerland. In addition to his solo and chamber music work, he sings as a baritone in the vocal quartet "Cantosonor".
    Born in Romania in 1985, Florian Podgoreanu began his musical education in his hometown of Ploiesti. Already in his early years of training, he received national and international prizes for piano and composition as a pianist, among others in Romania, Belgium, Austria and Italy. In 2000, he was admitted to the Music Lyceum George Enescu in Bucharest in the class of Prof. Ileana Busuioc. In 2003, he began his piano studies at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and completed his Bachelor's degree with Prof. Cordelia Höfer-Teutsch and his Master's degree with Prof. Imre Rohmann in 2012 with distinction.

    Florian Podgoreanu gained further training and inspiration in master classes with Serghei Dorensky, Lory Wallfish, Lisa Leonskaya, Viniciu Moroianu, Trevor Pinock and Rolf Dieter Arens, among others.

    Each active member of the masterclass will attend two 60' courses.
