Duo Sirius is a portuguese duo, formed by the guitarrists Diogo João and Márcio Silva. A dynamic duo that follows a brilliant track in competitions and concert halls.
The two musicians met in 2015 while studying with Dejan Ivanović, at the University of Évora, having collaborated in different projects ever since.
Since its conception in 2018, the duo has performed all over Portugal in events such as Young Guitar Masters Paredes, Guimarães International Guitar Festival, Lagoa International Guitar Festival, International Music Festival of Paços de Brandão and Festival Jovens Músicos. Duo Sirius’ playing has been broadcasted various times by the portuguese classical music radio station Antena 2.
The duo is the recipient of several prizes including the 1st prize in Chamber Music (Superior level) at the Prémio Jovens Músicos 2022 (Portugal), 1st prize at the first guitar duo competition of the Veria International Guitar Festival (Greece), the 1st prize in Chamber music with guitar at the City of Lagoa International Guitar Competition “Zé Gregório” (Portugal) and the 2nd prize of the “Guitar plus 1” competition at the 30th Ligita Guitar Festival (Liechtenstein).
The International Guitar Festival of Veria (VIGF) attaches particular importance to the artistic gravity of the international competitions that it has been holding since 2016. For this purpose, it systematically cooperates with important artistic organizations in Greece and abroad such as concert halls, guitar festivals and orchestras. Thus, for the 15th VIGF organized by the Municipality of Veria and held at the Veria Arts Center in December 2022, DUO SIRIUS performs at the Philippos Nakas Concert Hall, as part of the 1st Prize they won in the Duet Guitar Competition. This Competition was part of a wider VIGF dedication to the guitar duo format which included seven additional world premieres - by Duo Melis, Duo Kontaxakis-Ivanovic and D&A GuitarDuo - of works for two guitars that were awarded in the corresponding Composition Competition, chaired by the jury committee Dusan Bogdanovic. The tribute was accompanied by the publication of the works by the Canadian music Publishing House Les Productions d'Oz and the CD edition by the Polish label Small Great Music with the general title "Veria International Guitar Festival: The Prized Works". The Artistic Director of VIGF is Dimitris Kourzakis.
