Cimbalom Recital - Clearchos Korkovelos

The Hungarian cimbalom stands out through its wonderful timbres in a unique recital. In his program, Clearchos Korkovelos makes sure to highlight the Hungarian cimbalom through the repertoire that is preserved and concerns older instruments, such as the Italian salterio, but also through the works created during the Romantic period, placing it on a path parallel to that of the piano.
Starting with the Folias de Espagna, one of the oldest themes of European music (end of the 15th century), the Sonata in c minor by Domenico Scarlatti and the Sonata per il Salterio (1770) by the Italian composer Angelo Conti, three works of the romantic period will be presented, the Venetianisches Gondellied, op. 57, V (of 6 songs for voice and piano) by F. Mendelssohn - Bartholdy in transcription for cimbalom by the Hungarian D. Erdelyi, as well as two of the most beautiful studies for cimbalom by the Hungarian composer and cellist Geza Allaga (1841 - 1913), founder of the classical school of the organ in Hungary, who was friendly with Franz Liszt. A great influence of the Hungarian national school is observed in Allaga's studies.
