Musical Triptych | Pantelis Stamatelos, violin - Yiannis Michailidis, piano

Based on the triptych (Solo violin with piano accompaniment – Solo piano – Chamber music for violin and piano) the concert of violinist Pantelis Stamatelos and pianist Yiannis Michaelidis is the natural continuation of the long-standing collaboration of the two musicians.

The program begins with the famous Chaconne by Tomaso Vitali (1663 -1745), a work of great violin virtuosity of the Baroque era transposed for violin and piano by Léopold Charlier, continues with the tender Sicilienne wrongly attributed to Maria Theresia von Paradis (while it is actually a composition by the violinist Samuel Dushkin (1891 - 1976) based on the slow movement of Carl Maria von Weber's Sonata for Violin and Piano Op. 10 No 1) and the masterful transcription of the fiery Spanish dance Νο 5, Andaluza by Fritz Kreisler.
Here are two works for solo piano from Edvard Grieg's (1843 - 1907) masterpiece Lyrical pieces: "The Lost Days", Op. 57 No1, a melancholic reminiscence of times gone by, and the sparklingly festive "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen", Op. 65 No 6.
The program concludes with another Grieg work, the majestic Sonata Νο 3, Op.45, in C minor for violin and piano.
